    second ride
Second ride on the Multistrada. After work, took it out for a backroads ride. Down Santa Teresa all the way to Llagas, back up and then over Bailey, and then up Uvas to Almaden and back home.

Took off the Laminar lip on the windshield; this helps the wind buffeting some. Still needs a better windshield. The suspension REALLY needs to be tuned for me, sometimes it was like riding a bucking horse*. Lots of nose-dive on braking.

But holy crap! The bike wants to fly down the road. Just a quick twist from dead stop and 70mph is there; a few seconds in 4th with pinned throttle and everything is a 100mph blur.

    * Disclaimer: Never rode a bucking horse. Used for metaphorical purposes only.

    I LIVE!
Last entry 83 weeks ago, what's this shit?!

First entry with the new Multistrada:

Starting point: Tracy Motorsports, Tracy, CA
Ending Point: Home; South San Jose, CA

    Riding type: Mixed freeway

First ride to take the new baby home. Found out the suspension needs to be dialed in, and it vibes a little bit in higher RPMs. No big issue. The handlebar mirror sucks ass and will be replaced ASAP with OEMs.

Strong power all the time, incredible riding position (I can stare right at truck drivers!), decently comfortable seat. Needs larger windshield. Digital fuel/mpg computer is cool, even has miles-to-empty. Easy visible gauges.

Wind from Tracy until back into Silicon Valley area, and lots of looking right into the sun. Nice views though, and major endorphin high from my first long ride in a long time.

    doh
    That didn't go well.

I took the freeway to 85 and Saratoga - about 13 miles - and was exiting at Saratoga Ave when I discovered the clutch cable was broken! I pulled over on the side of the ramp and killed the engine.

Lucky for me, my friend Tim was working at Oakridge, and was able to bring himself, his truck and tiedowns, to my rescue. Made it back home without incident.

Note to self: don't use aftermarket clutch cables.

    today's ride
I did a solo ride today.

First I rode over to Garrod Farms and met Christy's coworkers. Unfortunately for them for but fortunately for me, they got a bunch of customers, so I ran away (with a promise to return).

I went up to Alice's/STP and hung around hoping to see some SBRers. There were a lot of people out and the weather was great! I talked with a bunch of people, sat in the sun and had some coffee. And I ran into Helumt of Helimot! That was cool. He's such a nice guy.

After an hour I went on a solo loop. The roads were OK, except under sections of Alpine and Pescadero which had crap on the road and were very damp. At Alpine/Page Mill, the road was closed south on 35 (due to a powerline failure I later found out), so I had to go down Page Mill road to 280. So I wasn't able to get back to the Farm in time before Christy left.

First Entry: Purpose and Basic Information
This journal is a record of the motorcycle rides - particularly solo rides - by [info]thomasj.

In the event that I go missing:

    1) Call my cell phone.
    2) Check the most recent entry for my intended ride, and this entry for my common ride locations.
    3) Contact the relevant local police department - the San Jose Police is a good start.
    4) Post on South Bay Riders, who know me and where to look.

    Assume I've gone missing if:

    1) I don't post here 24 hours after I finish an intended ride, or update [info]thomasj.
    2) I don't show up at work.

I live in south san jose, Cottle off 85. Common places for me to ride solo:

    * Hicks Roads / Mt Unumhum
    * Uvas Road
    * Santa Cruz Mountains; mostly the eastern parts.
